Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Anyone here running with tendonosis (probably spelt wrong)?

I've picked it up somewhere, thickened tendon in the middle which stiffens up when not exercised and begins to bite around the 10k mark. I've found exervices for it in RW mag which does seem to be helping but I'm not sure if I can run through it or not.

I'm warming up and down plenty and concentrating on the ankles, calfs and ham's more than I previously would have. This old stuff really sucks! I remember the day (swings lamp) when a warm up to a run constitued a quick pee and a smoke!!

Ive going though just that. Picked it up Easter Monday at a 10k race. Went to see my physio guy and said to carry on running, dont push it and it will fade away. Its done just that, but it feels a totally diffrent size to my right leg? Left a message with him this morning to see if thats ok, he has nt got back to me yet.

Tendonitis?

I had achilles tendonitis about 5 years ago -the affected tendon became almost twice as thick as the other and there was a nagging pain. I had a couple of physio sessions, exercises, bit of ultrasound and massage -and 6 weeks off running. Wearing neutral shoes caused mine over a period. Ignore it and it might become chronic. Blood supply is poor to the achilles so self massage can help.

There's 2 ailments aparently Doc', tendonitis which you have to lay off, use anti-inflamatries etc and then tendonosis which you're supposed to exercise through. Tendonosis is seen as a degenerative condition.

DJ it's good to know it may fade off, I'll keep plodding on but wont push through it. I've a 5 miler booked for July and a half for October so it'll be nice if I can get squared away for then.

Five years and counting of this condition on and off. Now chronic and I have tried everything possible to overcome it apart from surgery. At the moment it is being managed through various activities but it IS still there. Don't ignore it, get treatment, and don't try to run through it.

There is some encouraging research coming out on intense pulse light for this condition and there are some evidence that eccentric and specialised weight loading exercise can help if dealt with early enough, but the truth is that the medical world really don't understand what is going on in the tendon. What you will always get is educated guess from the medical world. That is FACT.

Be careful, if it hurts you are doing something wrong. Target that and you could well overcome it quickly, as many people do. Ignore it and you could be heading for chronic achilles problems, or my world :(

Boab - sad news mucker and I don't push it. If it don't feel right it doesn't get done.

I've done a physio self referral and I'm just waiting for the slot to come through. Thanks for the responses peeps - really appreciated.

Hope it all goes well wiggly and yes, liked advice off Boab too. Mine is doing just what my physio said which is just fade away with time. He must have spoted which type it was straight away and I did question running on a painfull (to me) achillies but its all good. That said still running 1 minute slower than I can do, but suit the training so,fine.
