Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Notes & Comments

I know I'm beating myself up unnecessarily but this run was sooooo frustrating. The day and event was amazing, so well organised and the crowds were amazing. I felt confident, my training had gone well and I really wanted to do my best. I Remember crying getting into the pen, just pure emotion of finally doing my first marathon. Only took about 7 mins to get through the start and the pace wasn't too bad either. Had a couple of loo stops which didn't take long either, so was really happy. The miles seemed to pass really quickly and I was lucky enough to see people in the crowds I knew. But from about mile 16 my knee had other ideas and by 18 miles I couldn't run with the pain so had to run/walk the rest. Again the crowds are amazing at keeping you going but all I wanted to do was cry. I also had the issue us runners dread and had to keep stopping for the loo. Any way in my heart I know if I hadn't been hit with the injury stick I'd have hit what I set out to do, (time wise) but it is what it is and I need to stand proud. Here are my splits and I'm sure you'll see where the loo stops and injury took place haha 9:02 8:43 8:27 8:46 11:01 8:43 9:05 8:53 9:00 9:04 12:37 8:58 9:09 9:12 9:18 11:00 10:02 11:13 10:46 9:45 12:12 14:05 15:45 13:47 13:59 14:28

Sorry your Marathon didn't go to plan but you did it you got through all the months of training and you did your first marathon the furthest you have ever run. You did it well done for doing it. Marathon's are tough races but there a nuisance that you can't repeat too often. Be proud Maddy most people have never done one. :-)

Don't beat yourself up, you did one of the hardest challenges anyone could do and raised lots of money for charity. It's a shame about your knee, I hope it clears up soon and your back out running in no time :-)

Underneath all the hoo-hah and hype that surrounds a marathon is just a bloody long slog, pushing your body far further than it comfortably wants to go! Finishing while carrying an injury really takes some doing, so don't worry about the time. Well done xx
Please wait... saving your change.
