pedroscalls asks:
Congratulations on winning MoTM YP, my question is if time and money was no object what race or route would you love to do.
Yorkshire Pie says:
Can fitness be no object too?

With unlimited time and money it would definitely involve long distance/multi day cycling, probably in Europe or possibly the US and sleeping in beds rather than behind hedges and in bus shelters. The fitness would impact on whether it was a race or just a route, and on what sort of event I chose. A single event I'd actually have loved to be involved with was when the InternationElles rode the TdF a day in advance to help make the case for a womens race, but that would definitely have required more fitness!
RRR-CAZ 🇬🇧 asks:
Congratulations Yorkshire pie Q. If you were to be offered golden tickets to any sporting event what would you pick to watch ?
Yorkshire Pie says:
Tough one because most of the sports events we watch just involve rocking up to the side of the road, no tickets needed! But I think I'll opt for a VIP pass for the cycling world championships in Glasgow next year which gets me entry to any event and seating at the finish line of the road events. They're combining most of the disciplines into one event rather than having them spread out in different times/places so I reckon that would be a good one to opt for.
3M asks:
Congratulations!
What's your favourite kind of pie?
Yorkshire Pie says:
Meat and Potato, preferably from Wigan for a traditional rugby watching snack. In a pub it's more likely to be steak and ale but only if it is encased in pastry - none of this stew with a lid stuff...
westmoors asks:
Congratulations. If you could meet anyone, past or present, who would it be and why?
Yorkshire Pie says:
I had to think for a long time about this one, and I'm going to say William Shakespeare. That's the influence of growing up in Stratford!
Mushroom asks:
Congratulations. If you were only allowed to enter one event - over and over again - what would you choose? A new one you've never done, or an old favourite, and why?
Yorkshire Pie says:
My racing season does tend to be the same event over and over again! Because there are a limited number of safe courses for time trialling most of my races are on one of two courses so it would probably be one of those. Of the two I would probably pick the red wall (A168 between Boroughbridge and Walshford) because there is a mix of club and open events on it over various distances depending how many laps you do. I would no doubt regret this choice about half way through the season...
FML asks:
Congratulations. Which would you prefer to do, run London Marathon or cycle Alp d'Huez?
Yorkshire Pie says:
Definitely Alpe d'Huez. I've done them both before. Putting aside the fact that running breaks me these days, London Marathon is too busy and not particularly scenic. The Alpe has stunning views and wouldn't be anywhere near as crowded unless you tried to do it on the day of a big event. And it wouldn't take as long to recover from so I could do some other riding while I was there
Pothunter asks:
Congratulations! What would you have for your death-row meal? Starter, main, desert plus something to wash it down?
Yorkshire Pie says:
I think that the starter would be something based on cheese, maybe a baked camembert with some crusty bread. Steak and ale pie for main, followed by sticky toffee pudding. Washed down with red wine and maybe a honey rum chaser.
Velociraptor asks:
Many congratulations, YP. How did you discover bikes?
Yorkshire Pie says:
It's mainly MudMeanderer's fault

Except it isn't - as a kid I always used to bomb round the local lanes on my bike - my sister and I would be allowed to go out on our own on the bikes for a fair distance. I commuted by bike when I was at university, and after a bit of a gap when I lived too far away from law school/work to cycle, I bought another commute bike. I thought I was being really extravagant spending £300 on it... I would commute on it, but when I picked up running injuries I'd do a bit more cycling - I got out to Haworth and back on it once and I also cycled to York and back with MM. The year I met MM I'd already booked a cycling holiday in Girona - it was a very sedate affair - about 20 miles per day, largely downhill with luggage transferred from stop to stop. But I enjoyed it and when I got home I decided that I might quite like to buy a road bike to do more cycling as it was something I knew he enjoyed. I have a dodgy ankle from breaking it back in 2002, and the running injuries were getting more frequent so cycling looked like a viable plan B. I just didn't expect to stop running completely!
