Hey, welcome Saffy. Climb on board the good ship Lardybutt and keep us all company.
Right, since you've all been dying to know my results I can confirm (drum roll) that I have (shock horror) PUT ON a pount this week. Scales must obviously be out. But I don't feel fatter. And I've still had no booze. Yesterday wasn't good (but that was after I weighed myself not before) - maybe that was cos I was subconsciously gutted at going in the wrong direction?

I can only say one thing: muscle is heavier than fat...

very true Han.
My friend told me that muscle is *7 times* denser than fat, having "heard it on the radio", which if true would mean that olympic swimmers would train themselves to a point at which they would crash to the bottom of the pool, smashing the tiles and requiring a hoist to save them. I think the true figure is that muscle is around 20% denser than fat.

A pound of muscle weighs, I believe, exactly the same as a pound of fat
When I started running, I lost lots and lots of weight - quite scary lots - on 30-40mpw plus some cross-training. Last year I averaged over 60mpw and my weight didn't budge. I sometimes *unheart* adaptation.
Salads obviously cause weight loss, though. We don't usually go in for rabbit-food, but I gave eL Bee! salad with his dinner on Tuesday, and today he asked me to take all his 32" waist trousers to the charity shop because they're falling off him.

LOL... what I was trying to say is that if you convert say one cubic metre of fat into one cubic metre of muscle, the cubic metre of muscle is going to be heavier than the original cubic metre of fat...
According to the ancient principles of Ayurveda, one should always eat some raw fruit or veg with each meal. Be is a salad or fruit or carrot or something... I have done this for years... seems to keep me healthy and I think it does keep the metabolism healthy...

I am loosing scary lots of weight on 30-45 miles a week at the moment, while I don't partyicularly WANT to loose anymore... I dread to think what will happen when I start building up to 60 miles next month...

just go with the flow Han, if it's coming off in response to training as opposed to deliberate starvation you'll be fine, and it'll make you quicker!

I should probably just stop obsessing about it and forget about being too thin, however everyone keeps commenting about it...
