Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Thanks Ness, lucky enough to have two full days there coming up, trying to get my head round what I need to book in advance for etc.

Can't wait :-)

Agree Pantheon, Trevi fountain and coliseum. We walked about and ate ice cream and drank coffees and people watched too :-)

Rome felt a bit like London with its graffiti but with older monuments. There are groups of Italians and North Africans around who will do anything to get you to part with your money. Such as posing for photos with Roman soldiers at the Coliseum, trying to get you to buy a red rose for your other half and even bringing out umbrellas with the first spots of any rain!

I went to the St Peter's and the Sistine Chapel, the Coliseum, Trevi fountain and Spanish Steps. The Circus Maximus is nothing more than a park now, but you can still get the flavour of the place simply by its size. I did like Rome but preferred Venice and my wife liked Florence.

Crumbs, its almost 30 years since I went to Rome. The main tourist bits have already been mentioned. What I would advise is to walk around as much as possible rather than using public transport. Although do take care crossing roads, a green man just means you have a chance of reaching the other side! By walking, I came across some lovely piazzas that I probably wouldn't have seen otherwise.

Be careful on the roads. We got a taxi who drove right up behind the car in front at quite a speed. Pedestrians don't have right of way, even on a crossing, as cars and mopeds will still weave around you as you cross.
