Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

One of the top comments on Kermode's recent top 10 films article described him as "Guardian incarnate". Based on the kinds of films he highlights (and hates), I'd say that's fairly accurate.

I liked Moonlight too, but it's not exactly the pinnacle of what filmmaking has to offer.

A pie has a complete lid, NO cut outs of any shape. :-)

A star on top of a mince pie is a good thing IMO, as you can see the filling beneath and thus the manufacturer can't then hide how stingy it is.

How many times have you bitten excitedly into a mince pie, anticipating an aural explosion of lovely rich fruity filling as per the picture on the side of the box, only to find a sliver of brown sludge on the bottom plus a whole load of air, all hidden by the pastry covering.

I like Kermode, he just has his own style, and I like the Guardian too...

I don’t think there should be cutouts, the purpose of the pastry is to keep the contents nice and moist surely?

"a sliver of brown sludge on the bottom" :-(

The mince pie equivalent of the Cornish pasty "beard of burning gristle"?

One of my colleagues sent an email with the title minced pies. It gave me inappropriate giggles and I had to leave the room.
