My friends both had unusual last names but their combination for their kids worked. Another thing I find annoying for no particular reason: people who use their middle names (which is fine) but have the first initial anyway (is that an American thing?). L Ron Hubbard; E Annie Proulx; L Frank Baum.

I don't give a flying fork what anyone else thinks, what the dictionary says, or how long the words have been in use for. That's not the point of the thread (I suspect this late night, sleepless rant would be better placed on a different thread).
