Depends where they're getting the info from. Cyclingnews are happy to give out info garnered from all sorts of sources, BBC are waiting until they have the official updates from race radio/organisers.

Well in this case I think CN were just ahead as they said he wasn't being recorded on the timing system but awaited official confirmation that he was out, then came back a minute later and said he had pulled out. BBC didn't mention he wasn't being picked up until 15 mins later, although tbf, I think they'd given up on him being a contender and may have stopped looking for him.

I am even wetter than on honister. Down off the hill and on the last straight and the rain has stopped! For now...

Pissed that Rui Costa won! Why didn't Valverde follow him?!

Valverde would be pulling back to a team mate (Costa) and a countryman (Purito). Nibali wasn't going to lead out Valverde for a sprint. Having 2 riders in there actually ended up undoing things for Spain.

Glad Valverde didn't get it anyway!

Nibali deserved a medal as well. I was sure Spain had it in the bag, will be interesting what Valverde has to say. Seems like he didn't think Rui Costa could make the catch so thought his job was done.

X-post. But Nibali was never going to win a sprint, he was cooked, as was Purito, so it would have been Valverde vs Rui Costa.

In hindsight, maybe Purito and Nibali should have gone a little later, they were definitely the strongest, but then maybe there wouldn't have been such a decisive selection with a later attack.
