Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Electric car anyone?

I had a lovely fun time at my local MG dealership on Saturday. Ran the figures on a new MG4 EV.

Very, very tempted. Spoke to the Skoda dealership too about how much it would cost to replace my current petrol car like-for like, and there's, like, 20 quid a month in it.

I'm currently giving the MG4 a big thumbs up. Did a 8 hour round trip down to Cardiff from Chester over the weekend, very pleasant drive (all A roads) and everything worked as it should.

I could nit pick about elements of the driving features that I'd like to be more accessible, but tbh the fact that they are buried down a couple of menu options just means I don't bother with them and I'm perfectly happy with the default set up. My only strong steer would be to choose the "ACC" cruise control option rather than the "TJA" version (its a "sticky" choice in the menu, so you don't need to change it every journey) which for me eliminates any concerns about the lane keeping being a bit vigorous on motorways.

I still loathe our MG4. The lane keeping is the most annoying feature on the planet. And the fact that I have to go through several screens to turn it off every single time I get in is a huge part of my dislike. .... but are you suggesting the above fixes that?

I'll be honest, the lane keeping is the most annoying feature of my Skoda, too. So I suspect I simply didn't notice it?

Had a go in an MG ZS as well, that was a totally different drive, and I didn't like it. Much more demanding in terms of forcing regenerative braking - it was loathe to coast at all. Foot off the "go" pedal meant stop. That concerns me only so far as my daughter is still terribly car-sick and I need to be able to avoid sudden changes in momentum.

That said, I'd imagine there's a possibility that without the vibration and drone of engine noise, there's a chance it might get better?

In our Kia the level of regen can be set (and easily adjusted on the fly via dedicated paddles on the steering wheel), I like it moderately strong for one-foot driving (no need to actively brake for most bends or speed limits basically) but it is a change in driving style for sure.

I sometimes switch to max regen just for rolling down the hill outside our house which is pretty steep!

Would be interesting to compare settings DocM. And obviously it depends on the roads you drive too.

I've got the mode set to ACC (though I rarely use it) and then I think Lane Keeping is set to "low". I'll screenshot my settings when I remember on the way home.

I just get in and drive.

What year is your MG4? Mine is a SE LR model, manufacturer year 23. So could be different.

These are my settings DocM They persist between drives, and don't give me any lane keeping grief (I do get the odd tug here and there, but nothing dramatic and nothing that isn't deserved).
