Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Does anyone have any experience of using a TENS machine and can you recommend it for pain relief? I'm looking specifically for relief of arthritic pain in my hands. Pain relief gels aren't quite hitting the spot anymore and don't really want to be popping even more pills if I can help it.

I used a TENS machine throughout labour with son2 - didn't even need gas and air, let alone any injections - maybe it was just a psychological effect but it was great for me. Don't know if labour pains and arthritic hands can be compared though!

I used a tens machine also while in labour but it didn't touch the pain and I ripped it off and threw it across the room! Guess what works for one might not another.

So one for and one against. Think I might just give it a try.

Definitely worth a try. Can you hire one at all before buying?

I used one for the CRPS in my arm. It worked if I got the current to run in exactly the right direction otherwise it was horribly painful. Hope you get something for your hands.

I've ordered one off Amazon. Maybe not the latest model but reasonably priced plus a glove attachment which spreads the charge over the whole hand which sounds ideal as more than one joint is affected.

Thanks Wobbling. The machine came today and hopefully the glove will arrive tomorrow. That'll give me time to read the manual so I know what I'm doing!

The glove did come today and am currently trying it out in my lunchbreak. (No pun intended!)

It's a weird but relaxing feeling and seems to be working more on the worst affected finger, which is good! This one is contracting, where the others are just twitching with the pulses.
