Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I have a question for glasses wearers. Historically, I have run in contact lenses, but often wear glasses to and from work when I'm running on my commute as I find disposable contact lenses incompatible with day-long VDU use.

Normally it's not a problem, I wear a peaked cap to keep rain off my glasses and it's usually OK. However, today it snowed, and running home from work I needed to clean my glasses, then they steamed up, then I couldn't see to avoid some major obstacles on my off-road route. A peaked cap wasn't an option due to the cold.

I discovered that woolen gloves don't adequately clean snow off glasses lenses. Do any of you who always wear glasses to run have any special tricks that I need to be aware of?

Or does anybody know where I can get hold of a pair of these:

I don't get on at all with contacts, if I know it's going o be raining and a peaked hat isn't an option I put a clean hankie in my pocket, even when a bit damp it cleans off the rain well enough so I don't bump into anything or anyone

I generally wipe em every now and then (and probably scour off the surface) using whatever item of techy clothing is most easily to hand. Buff's normally a good option, but I have been known to wipe em on me shorts. So, no. No special technique but almost anything is better than woollen gloves. You might as well take a scouring pad to your specs.

(*How long before someone posts on here taking umbrage at being called 'speccy'?*)

Are we not allowed to use "that" word amongst ourselves?

Just wipe-em, then? I found the fleece end of today's Polar Buff to be substandard, and my sleeves were under my jacket. Maybe I need to keep another Buff spare. Or man up and not wear the polar one.

Like you DeeGee, I wear daily disposable lenses for my longer runs and stick to glasses/prescription sunglasses for shorter ones. I wear glasses at work for (VDU as well) as it's good to give tired eyes a rub now and again.

I can't give any specific advice with the steaming up as this is a common problem with cold, wet glasses suddenly getting warm. In some cases, I might run without corrective vision on a short run as I have a -2.75 prescription. I see objects without 'sharp' edges but I'm unlikely to run into something due to shortsightedness.

If you're running as a commute, I would not recommend wearing no glasses/lenses but it would probably be OK on a rural one with less traffic.

I'm -4 on both eyes. I can't go naked. Although I did once do the cycle and run of a sprint triathlon with one working eye having had a lens knocked out in the pool.

Which of course, is somewhere you should never wear contact lenses.
