Can I point out, I wasn't that excited, it was the wind. Honest.

Mabo was my first ever sub 3:15, I think 2007 ish. Selected it for its flatness, but boy was it windy. It was very distinctly weird barrelling along racing your heart out while not being able to see anyone in front or behind. Fairly sure it was a 1 lapper then.
Did it again a few years later, ended up the hottest October day in history, it was about 84 deg F. It was a two lapper with a half running as well.

When I was about 15 or maybe 16 I spent four weeks in a caravan on the Skegness Riviera. One highlight was my twin brother throwing up on a lass from the same caravan site on the waltzer. Her velvet jacket was very conspicuous the next morning on her family’s washing line. I don’t remember any other highlights apart from getting home safely

Did you wear the knotted hanky to get a few extra cheers from the locals (and save time when heading for a deck chair after....)

The knotted hankie was (and still is) something we do at the running club whenever we race at the seaside. I tend to keep mine in a pocket and whip it out as I near the finish. There was one memorable occasion during the Yorkshire 10k at Scarborough, when me and my running buddy did synchronised hankie donning as we charged along the sea front, the race commentator saw us and got the crowd cheering us. Nice day that.

Skeggie is the traditional holiday destination for Leicester people (where they are known as 'Chisits' from their habit of asking the price of everything.
Mr JK and I are both incomers to Leic, and neither of us had ever been, which our Leic friends have always found incredible. We therefore decided to make good this deficit a few years ago. It was out of season, so very quiet, but it did remind us both of our childhood seaside holidays (mine to Scarborough and Bridlington, Mr JK's to Barry Island). It was actually a pleasant little break, though we wouldn't rush back there again.
