I couldn't 'race' my relay stage last year ( as was still inda injured) but knowing the route already definitely made it more enjoyable and helped other runners who didn't know the way. I won't be recceing all the stages, just the ones that I'll probably be doing in the dark or that I fancy doing! It's also a weekend of running and socialising with my club which will be great. I'm not racing for any postition (obviously) but everyone to their own.

The recce ( for me) is for the * ooh which way do I go now* fun and on race day I can run as much of it as possible without that worry, especially when I get beyond tired which for me, will be much earlier than you experienced Ultrarunners!

It's a 4 hour drive for us btw. I'll be leaving home at 5am to start running at around 9am. Is that close ?
