Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I’ve started using my phone to take photos. The pics are often larger than the 6MB allowed on Fetch. There’s a handy resizing tool but it always rotates the photo through 90°.

If I’m uploading to a training run, there’s a button to rotate the photo back. But if it’s an upload to the gallery I can’t see a tool to rotate, so it ends up sideways on.
Before I summons Ian, am I missing something obvious?

Not on here, but I suspect on your phone. Rotating everything 90° is not normal :-) Check you app settings. My phone can crop, but I don't have a resize. If I'm taking a picture specifically for Fetch, I'll set it to a lower MP.

(I am thinking "wow, you must have a mega-phone! With enormous memory (or memory card)". Even at highest (8 MP) I don't think my phone will take a pic of that size.

I’ve got an iPhone X, a nice phone but not that unusual, surely?

Alice - have you tried cropping (even just a little), then saving?
Or mailing to yourself and choosing the file size there.

Is it the phone or Fetch that rotates thru 90° ?

Is there an "auto-rotate" or similar in the camera settings?

The photos are the right way round on the phone and stay the right way round if I don’t resize. The resize option appears when I click “upload image” on Fetch, then it appears rotated in the gallery. So I think it’s something to do with the Fetch site?

Um, I’ll try cropping...

There is a rotate tool on the phone, but it still uploads to Fetch sideways, even if I try turning it sideways to start with! (If that makes sense :-) )

I can’t remember what I did to sort it though! Probably just chose a different photo or gave up. Try the cropping thing.

Most photos these days have orientation in the meta data. May be that if reducing size on import to Fetch, it is losing that orientation? Probably worth a feedback mail to Fetch?
Or, knowing Fetch, leave it a day 'cos he'll probably read this ;-)
