Hi everyone. This might have been discussed before so apologies if it has. Is there an iphone app that tracks your run but that talks to you whilst your going along. I'll explain. I need to wear reading glasses as I am as blind as a bat without them. HRM watches and GPS screens are useless to me without glasses. Problem is my normal eyesight is fine and so now I have to take a pair of glasses with me if I want to check on progress. I also like to listen to podrunner while i run so i was thinking that it would be great if there was some sort of app that interrupts the music to give you updates on pace speed distance, heartrate etc.verbally at the press of a button. I used to have a device by nike that did this but it worked via a footpod and was not very reliable. I'd be very grateful of any assistance.
Thanks
Clint

I used to use RunKeeper on my iPhone which gave me updates on pace each km or mile. You can pair it with an HRM if you have the correct doodah. I only stopped using it when I started to run for more than a couple of hours because it's a bit of a battery killer. There will be other apps like it but it's very good. I still use the Runkeeper website to back up my running logs.

This might sound incredibly obvious but a long time before Garmins I used to use a Timex sports watch with a countdown timer that I set to beep every 7 mins and 40 seconds which I thought was about a mile. Whether it was or not didn't really matter. I knew that it would beep somewhere about Twinoaks, then at the top of Oakshade Road, then just when I got to the entrance to Patchesham House, then when I got to The Coach House, then the main entrance to Little Parks House, then opposite The Tilt, and .... well you get the picture.
So if you run the same route a few times you know where it beeps and if it beeps after you've gone a long way past you are flying! If it beeps before you get to the usual point then it's a bad one.

Micoach does this as well. Either with their iPhone app or their pacer device. See micoach.com. You can set up training plans and it will give you audio feedback of when to speed up / slow down depending on the workout (intervals, warm ups, cool downs etc.)
I used to use it, but wanted a watch rather than audio training in the end.

The other thing is the Virtual Partner on the Garmin. It's very easy to see whether it's black (slower than the virtual partner) or white (ahead of VP) but to be honest with hills and wind this isn't quite as much use as it could be.

Endomondo does this on Android. Don't know if it's available for Apple.
It's amazing how much stuff is available, for free, on Android
