Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Thanks JR. I just had a quick look on google maps (as the metro route planner is rubbish at working it out from postcodes!) and had also come to the conclusion that Fennel or Heworth would be my best bet. I'm not too worried about the crowds as have done the Great Manchester Run a couple of times so know how busy these things can get, but also know how long everything takes! Will definitely send partner/friends towards the finish which will make them happy as they can have a lie in while I start! I'm guessing I will be in a further back pen as I think I put down 2hrs.

Right, less worrying about logistics- more worry about training!

I used to drive to South Shields for about 8am, park overlooking the Tyne, then get the Metro from there. The Metro was empty at that point, and it was a gentle walk from the finish back to the car, by which time the traffic was moving, albeit slowly.

Now I do it all by train/bus back to the station/drink copiously post race.

2007, when I first ran, I was in pen G, ran 2.11, and my family, who saw me off at the start, missed me coming in.

My brother ran it in 2005, and my parents only just saw him at the end. There was a picture of the GNR from above on the front page of the telegraph the next day (as sadly 4 runners died) and my mum swore that she could see my brother in it. The rest of us remain unconvinced.
