There are plenty of cheap alternatives around the time of GNR if you're looking for something basic. Never stayed here but I believe one of the Universities provide accommodation and there are several hostels around the area. Hotels and B&B's tend to charge silly prices over the GNR weekend so you may pay more than expected.

Nirvana do have one university option available, though, or at least they did when I booked in December.
