We are trying to come up with anti-midge solutions. Scribbs - you have a Cali don't you? They little swines can get through the top vents in the pop top and laugh at the side window insert things, they're useless. You need a really fine mesh/denier to stop them.

Does that avon skin so soft still work? I have 2 bottles in the cupboard in case I ever venture up there in summer!

The new local champion is Smidge. Developed at Dundee university and it works really well.

Scottish midges lap up Skin So Soft as a tasty starter

Angus - they do two versions including the 'original' version that still has reviews mentioning midges - is it just a marketing ploy? I was hoping it would still work otherwise a waste of money lol. I'm not one for body sprays in general

Yes, so far unslept in Cali here. Hoping to put that right in a couple of weeks.
I'll take the Smidge recommendation onboard, for any Scottish trips, but we are thinking Ireland, Galway if we can later this year. Yorkshire/PeakDistrict if we can't cross the water.
I have also had good success keeping bitey things away in South East Asia with Incognito. Scottish midges probably think it's a new flavour.

DEET100 is the only thing that stops the beggars (actually Smidge isn't bad, but not as good as DEET). Unfortunately DEET also kills flora, fauna, skin, eyes, lips, taste buds and, in sufficient quantities, probably 51 year old Scottish hill runners. Fortunately I've managed to keep just low enough to avoid death.
Thanks for tips on van renting. I better stop watching or I'll want to get one! G

Do something with those vents Scribbs or you'll be making friends with the little swines very soon. Trust me on this one.
