Like most other people, we have a kitchen made of chipboard. One cupboard has its hinges at the top, and one of those hinges has fallen out, so the hole it went in is now too wide. Previously tried solutions include inserting matchsticks into the hole to help the screws grip.

The screws are fairly blunt, so I don't think a plastic plug is the solution. I doubt my ability to drill two holes in exactly the right position, so relocating the hinge isn't my first choice.

What's the best way forward?

Fizz :-)
Could you share a photo?

As my wife is expert par excellance in breaking things I've become handy with repairs.

Drill the hole oversize and fill with matchsticks and PVA, leave 24 hours to cure and then drill to suit or use these (http://www.eurofitdirect.co.uk/fixing-dowel-for-hinges-8mm/)

A photo would require two of us - one to hold the door safely and one to take the picture.

The fixing dowel looks good, and the matchsticks + PVA sounds like my kind of solution!

This works. A bit of sawdust in there too, helps to give the screw some purchase.

I think my only concern with the matchstick solution would be the depth of the hole, or rather the lack of it. I've got a door that's starting to go the same way and I'm tempted to get some of the fixing dowels before the chipboard breaks out.

Gorilla glue (other expanding resin type wood glues are available) might be better than PVA.

I'll go out to Screwfix before 4pm to get the fixing plates I think. I assume it's clear, once you've got them in your hand, what to do with them.
