I need a route for my 20 miler on Sunday when I will be away from home. I have found someone else has a 20 mile route starting around the corner from where I will be staying. Is it possible for me to somehow upload this to my Garmin? Otherwise I may have to print out a thousand maps....

Yes. If you look on the page that the route is on you will see near the bottom of the right hand column a little box with instructions as to how to send it to your Garmin.

Fabulous! Now, it's on my Garmin, how do I follow it? I was expecting a compass or something...

According to the same instructions above:
Go outside and get a signal. On your Forerunner, choose Training > Courses, pick your course, and "Do Course".
Never done it myself - might be worth trying with a route you know first

It displays an arrow to point you in the right direction. I've only done it for a Fetchpoint walk but I suspect the need to keep looking at your wrist could get a bit annoying if you're running. Definitely worth trying it out first.

Depending on your settings, it will bleep if you go more than about 20 yards off course, so you don't need to be constantly checking the arrow. I have used it on off-road ultras and also on local routes that my husband has created for me, and found it very easy to follow (although the ultras were marked out and I vaguely knew the local routes, not sure how it easy it would be in a completely strange area).

Excellent! Looking at my wrist at every junction has to be better than looking at a map, especially if it's rainy and windy.

A map can blow away. Your wrist (hopefully) won't
