Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

Grand prix legends what a game, those courses were so good, particularly Monaco and the Nordschleife of the Nuerburgring. But Indy 500 on the Amiga was amazing too, my favourite racing sim, one of the first to have its own 3D world, also tough, going round an oval 200 hundred times, controlling the car with a mouse, it needed concentration (but if you did crash there was an amazing replay option to see it in all its glory)

If you're gonna drive around in cars, you need to have dragged someone out of it first. GTAV gets my vote :-)

Ah, Grand Theft Auto - the guilty pleasure of nerd gamers, even the good guys.

Leonard: We're always the good guys. In D&D, we're lawful good. In City of Heroes, we're the heroes. In Grand Theft Auto, we pay the prostitutes promptly and never hit them with a bat.

(Sorry Nintendo fans, it was meant as gentle ribbing! I used to love Nintendo, had an N64, Gamecube, and Wii, but somewhere along the line the games seemed to stop being the focus, and one-off peripherals jumped in - I'm afraid they lost me. My nephew loves his Switch though)

My gaming history is long, was loading Mr Men Matching Pairs and Horace Goes Skiing on the ZX Spectrum at ~2 years old, was a PC gamer through high school, played Tekken 3 at a University party (I was still in college) and bought a PSX the next day. Owned Gameboy, PSX, PS2, Dreamcast, N64, Gamecube, Wii, PS3, PS4, PSPro, PSVR, and at some point PS5.

Arcade fans - if you find yourself in Bury or Leeds (and soon also Blackpool), I simply cannot recommend Arcade Club enough. In Bury, it's 3 floors of gaming, retro, modern, rhythm, J-games, VR, network PCs, etc etc. Pay your entry (£16 last time I visited), stay all day. All games on free play. Food and drinks reasonably priced. It's. Heaven.

I like the sound of the arcade :-)

There's a place in Nottingham called the National Videogame Museum - there's a bunch of stuff you can play in there, on various consoles, computers and cabinets: thenvm.org

The last video game I played in Bury was Outrun in a dodgy kebab shop at lunch time when I was at 6th form. Didn't know about Arcade Club, my boys might love that more than a trip to see the grandparents (in Bury) :-)

Do it. Kids young and old have a good time (under 14s I think need a responsible adult, I think 1 per 2 kids). It's in Ela Mill, just on the town centre's outskirts to the west.

I can't wait for them to reopen, it's worth the sore hands for days after from gripping unwieldy joysticks, swearing at R-Type, and dancing myself silly on DDR...

Have been to arcade club a few times pre COVID and I love it, every time I visit, you wouldn't be able to get me off 1942, my fave arcade game.. but its a great place...I have very ancient memories of playing Operation Wolf and Double Dragon somewhere in Rochdale..

We used to have a shop in Aberdeen when I was 12 or 13 that had Atari and Vic 20 and C64 and things and for 5p (?! It wasn't £ / s / d back in those days, I'm not that old!!) in a pot that he kept for charity, you could play in the shop. He made money out of us buying our games and/or consoles from him too. :-) G

Back when the ZX Spectrum was new, John Menzies would let you use the demo machines on their shop floor. They were all attached to out-of-reach TV displays that could be seen by all the shoppers.

I can still remember the cries of embarrassment from a young woman who returned from the tills to find her boyfriend had flexed his BASIC programming skills on an entire bank of Spectrums whilst she was paying for whatever she'd bought.
