Looks like I'll be doing some work for my old employer. I'll be watching and recording foreign TV streams, preferably the live broadcast from the station's own website. Thing is, a couple of them tell me that the content is not available here due to country restrictions. So how to get round this? I know only that the sites are blocking the UK, I don't know which other if any countries they also don't like. Maybe a vpn? Obviously, at minimal cost or if paid, not a long-term contract. |

I use NordVPN to watch iPlayer / channel 4 from NL, some services (Netflix) can still be problematic so depends on which you want to access. Most VPNs offer a free trial, so give it a go. |

If you've got a budget for it, you could try creating VMs in the appropriate geolocations and using those to get at the content e.g. azure.microsoft.com Not tried it myself, but should work in theory. |

If you use Chrome there is a range of free vpn plugins you can download and install that allow you to spoof your location such as Touch vpn (think I have that name correct). I have never actually used them as I am wary about the security of doing so but know a few friends that do to stream stuff like F1 and football or to get American shows on Netflix

Does your employer (whether old or not) have VPNs you could use? Some virus protection (eg Macafee) offer VPNs. But as Sam suggests, most VPNs offer free trials ... so depending how long this employ, emt will last, a series of those? |

Muttley - If you know which services you want to access I can try connecting with Nord and see if it allows it if you want?

Hi Sam, much appreciated. If you could spare a moment to see if this site works for you -- 1tv.ru I get nothing on it but the same station on other sites comes up as country restricted. Thanks! |

Update -- I tried accessing it via a vpn extension in Firefox and got no joy. I would need a vpn where I can select the server, so as to fool the site into thinking I am in its country.

My eldest son says he can get that via his paid version of protonmail.com using the Russia config. There might be free ones that work for Russia too. If it's a commercial project be aware you may be breaking terms of service on the content if using a VPN method which may expose the project to legal challenges depending on what you are doing exactly. Not judging at all, just something I would not get away with in my line of work ![]() |

There's no worries on that front, Simbil. It's not for capturing the video and using it in a for-profit setting. I'll be watching news bulletins and writing summaries of them for noncommercial users.
