Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Is there a stand alone distance tracking device?

I was given a redundant Garmin by a kind Fetchie for exactly that reason. I just want to track mileage and did that manually on Fetch but that was cumbersome to say the least on my long distance cycling adventures.
Have a look at the free/bargains thread on here. Older Garmins are often up for grabs for little or nothing.

I know there's a difference in battery life - both with GPS and as a 'normal' watch between different models.

I have a 35*. Good enough. 35 is a black and white display, 45 and 55 are colour.

*Though I now have a 245 music although I've never got the music working yet.

I think I’ve got a Garmin FR25 around here somewhere that you could have if you want. Let me know if you’re interested and if so I'll try and dig it out and check it works.

Dvorak, the 245M can play MP3s you load onto the watch or you can use Deezer/Amazon Music/Spotify if you have an account. You’ll need Bluetooth headphones as well.

Got something to say?

About This Thread

Maintained by Tim of Fife
All that I want to do is to track distance and time when running. Nothing more, nothing less.

The reason is that I run a lot on tidal sands, which don't feature on Mapometer etc.

Is there a simple device which would allow me to do that?

I don't take my phone on runs.

And I don't want to link any device to a phone app.
