I had a terrible time earlier in the year I had done 3 marathons in 14 weeks and foolishly gave blood between 2nd and 3rd one it wiped me completely.

I did an ultra 5 weeks ago so I think maybe I have got a bit run down. I will promise to decide on the day and do my best to fight it off in the meantime.

I wouldn't run because DNS is much more sensible than DNF in a marathon

Yep. I think the general advice of not exercising too soon after a common cold or viral infection is pretty sound advice IMHO.

A few days after a cold so long as I was noticeably improving I wouldn't worry about going for a long run, though I'd accept it may slow my recovery. I'd think carefully about really racing if the marathon was going to be a massive effort though. Is it an option to just think of it as a long steady run?

It would be a long steady run, I don't race anywhere jda

I think I will see how I am on Sunday and make a last minute decision. I'm hoping a couple of good nights sleep will make a difference.

I did 20 miles with a cold the weekend before last which helped to drag it out to this weekend when I did another 20 in some heavy showers :-) Still not 100% in nose and throat but I'm definitely on the mend (racing a marathon in 3 weeks).

If your RHR is less than 10bpm above normal then you should be ok to run as long as you keep it easy. No point in doing anything between now and then other than eating healthily and making sure you're keeping your fluids up. Paracetamol if you have a temperature or need pain relief for your sore throat (though something topical like Tyrozets would probably be just as good if not better).

Thanks all I’m feeling less coldy more tired so hoping a couple of decent sleeps will see me ok. I’ll work from home tomorrow so I can keep warm. Bad timing or what.

Hope you’re soon fixed jda
