Borrowdale Fell Race

crispy My best Borrowdale so far. Very wet which made conditions tricky. It seemed the ground was either boggy on the soft bits or slippery over the rocks. I lost count of the number of times I fell. All good fun though and a personal best for me by almost 1/2 an hour :) Will write the race up in my blog when I get time. Well done to everyone who ran. Unaffiliated 3:58:58 4:41:06 27.49

Mud Rocs This is a great race - didn't really do myself justice going astray of Gable - nearly go timed out and the relief was immense when I made Honister with a few minutes to spare - it felt like crossing the finish line - and really I had apart from the very small matter of Dale Head! On reflection this race was a great learning experience. Holcombe Harriers 3:59:24 4:59:59 5:31:32 24.20

SPKoF I'd like sub 4 but have no idea really. I paced vickyy around it last year on the shorter course but will be doing it 'flat out' (for me) this time.

Recced it plenty but still not happy with the big scree run off scafell so will drop into the col and still not sure of the best route of Great Gable so will loose time there following the path - the rest I know very well.

*update*

I said I had now idea of the time!
I ballsed it up really - didnt eat the entire race and suffered badly fr it from Sty Head onwards - bad navigation decesions etc. Totally bonked out up Dale Head - 4:30 should be easy if I get the route right. I picked up a few places with some shortcuts I took but lost some following other runners when I *KNEW* they were going wrong - the tiredness really buggered my thought process.

Still - thats the full course done now and plenty more experience of proper tough races under the belt. Long Eaton Running Club 3:02:28 3:59:00 4:42:00 27.30
Vickyy I didnt make the cut off - missed it by 36 minutes - but know where I went wrong - lost time at top of scarfell - following a group instead of trusting myself - and fell over quite a lot - lacking muscle resistence but I got safely to Honister using navigation and being brave on the descents and was an hour quicker reaching honister than I did on the previous week's reccy so lots to be positive about and I am determined to make the cut off and finish in 5:30 next year so the training continues :-) Long Eaton Running Club 4:41:27 6:00:00
WillBill Gosh. Well that couldn't have gone much better. Got myself a position towards the front of the massed ranks at the start and so got off to a quick first mile. Slowly made up a few positions from Bessyboot to Esk Hause & then pulled away from Janet McIver and a Bowland runner. Picked my way over the misty tops to Scafell Pike and looked hopefully for the way off. A Borrowdale runner appeared and proceeded straight to the quick route off & proceeded to guide three of us down all the best options along the Corridor Route. Realised for the first time that I could be going well when we emerged from the cloud and there was no one in view.

Pushed hard up Gable with an Eryri runner (who I later realised was IainR) and I led him off the top, round Green Gable & down the broad ridge line towards Brandreth, or so I hoped. Bit of responsibility when you're leading someone, especially when you've said Fife AC 3:35:00 3:16:10 41.58
