Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Ok, I have a question. If a hill goes up by 1 metre in 100, is that a hill? I know it's subjective, but at what point do you start being aware of going uphill?

1 in 50?

1 in 25?

Wet fingers in the wind please.

I was pondering this very same thing when running a ridiculously hilly (in my opinion) off road race yesterday. I haven't run even any gentle inclines in a few months due to injury and not wanting to break myself before Edinburgh mara, but was wondering what other people think of as a "hill". Most of this was probably triggered by a much older than me man powering past me on a steep incline and wondering if I was imagining how hard it was!!

Pictures would be good though!

Don't know. 1% vs 2% vs 4%

On a treadmill I can feel .5%, but I dont feel it much. 2% is definitely there, but might not be a 'hill'.

I'd call it a "hill" if it was about a 1 in 10. A proper hill would be about a 1 in 4.

I'm looking for the point at which it starts to have some sort of impact on your performance.

There's a 20% hill near me (I know cos there a sign for motorists). That's hilly. It's a bit scary driving down it.

If they have that sign for tumbling rocks, that's not great either.
