Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Have I got cleverer or has UC got way easier? This week's contestants were missing some easily guessable answers every other question...

That lot from the London Institute of Paris or whatever it was were awful - how on earth did they get through the selection process? (I'm assuming that there is some sort of weeding out process before the series starts but maybe they accept all entrants?)

Totally agree, LazyDaisy. They were definitely one of the weakest teams I have seen on there for a long time. I hope they weren't slipped through the weeding out process just to bring some "variety" to the series - the beret and 'Allo 'Allo style French were embarrassing.

There's certainly a selection process for the Oxbridge teams, they are not allowed more than a certain number, can't remember what. Don't know about the other teams though

A couple of similar descriptions - however I suspect last night's team were selected for novelty value ..

Thanks, um. 9/10 - got the orchestra one wrong. That 'how to get on UC' (Granada? CDs?) looks charmingly dated from the early 2000s...:)

There was a documentary on BBC2 that described the selection process. It changed about 5 years back to be more inclusive and have a wider range of personalities. It shows early rounds.

WS - ta, that 19505 explains a lot. That documentary sounds interesting, if infuriating (that's the slippery slope to each UC team having an emotional journey to get there)...
