Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Hi guys. Having ventured into ultra running & trail marathons, I've decided I need to replace my ageing and temperamental Garmin 405. Trail marathons dependant upon terrain are taking me upwards of 5 hours & the battery just ain't up to the job. Any suggestions on a good all rounder for this purpose?

I have a Garmin FR620 and get about 8 hours of GPS use between charges. One advantage it has over the 405 is the ability to power off completely.

The 620 can't be charged on the go so usually isn't recommended for ultras. Have a look at the Garmin Fenix2/3, they are 620 like but have ultra running modes and also can be charged on the go.

Garmin Fenix or Suunto Ambit are the most popular ones. I get about 12 hours from my Fenix in tracking mode, but you can charge it on the go. The Fenix software is notoriously buggy and I have to do full factory resets frequently to prevent lockups and crashes - for that reason, not sure I could recommend paying £200+ for one!

My old Garmin 310XT was better for battery life, I got about 15 hours from that - again you could charge on the go, but you lose the display when charging - it continues to record while charging though.

Thanks guys. The suunto looks the cats whiskers. It's so beautiful I might be frightened to run in it in case I go A over T in the sludge.

Looks smart enough to wear daily.

I'll drool away & see if I can find any good offers on line.

Thanks again

Do we know of any 24 hours battery life GPS watches? I'm going for the ton & would like the watch to keep with me...............or me with it.

Got something to say?
