Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Just catching up again! Despite not being happy with your recent races @SPR and @LBAC Si they are some pretty solid performances. We still have the rest of June, July and August to go.

I'm doing a 1500m tonight in Bristol, it's a bit too hot for my liking, but a stacked field in my heat. About 14 of us all between 4.25 and 4.35 and I think we have a pacer.

The only problem is I destroyed my calves a week ago doing 8 x 400m (1 min recovery) with spikes and after jogging on Monday my right calf flared up again (sort of a tender, fatigued tightness that feels a bit like DOMS). It's feeling a bit better now, so I'm gonna go, warm up and be prepared to either not do the race if it feels bad warming up, or pull out of the race if it's playing up while running. My SB is a pathetic 4.47, so I've put 4.35 as a prediction, hopefully I can get somewhere close to that.

@LBAC Si that looks tough the day after a race! I've not done it many times but a session after a race feels more manageable for me than one the day after.

Hope tonight goes well @Blister, don't risk it if not feeling good though. Might be worth just doing a couple of reps at the end with spikes if not used to them ATM ) although it wouldn't work for that session.

These may work for me as I'm used to low drop anyway but maybe the Streakfly 2 can be useful as a halfway house as well. Spike geometry but not as rigid despite the carbon plate (it's a thinner one than the VFs) and a bit of drop even if it doesn't look like it. I'd do a session like the one you did in them and yesterday's session was in them.

@SPR Was hard - just got my head down for the first 5 LOL

Good luck @Blister Yes at least its just 3& 3/4 laps! I'm doing the Beds AAA 10k on Friday. 19.30 start so may be less hot by then. My son is running it so thought i'd keep him company - probably need to do 37.xx to get the Beds V50 crown though.

Thanks @SPR and @LBAC Si, I decided to run in the end. What a scorcher! My car said it was 29 degrees when I arrived at the track. Luckily my heat was just after 8, so it was a little cooler by then. My calf actually felt OK warming up, but then I discovered we were about 20 minutes behind and then it started to ache. A pacer turned up at the last minute and asked what pace everyone wanted - the consensus was 69, which was way too fast for me (I would have liked 72).

So I just immediately tucked in at the back, went through 400m in 71 feeling OK, by about 600m I had lost contact with the pack and was running solo. 800m in 2.25, but was starting to flag a little by then, not sure of lap 3 but it was my lowest. I was just holding on at this point (with one guy a few seconds behind giving chase). Finished in 4.37.7 - which is technically a 10 second SB and the fastest I've run since 2019, so I can't really complain. I feel like I had a 4.35 or quicker in me, but I would have need people to run with and probably not the fear of tearing my calf.

Good luck on Friday @LBAC Si that's gonna be tough!

Nice work @Blister and good improvement from April.

10000 in this weather will be a tough one for sure @LBAC Si

I'm doing 3000 at the MMAC Champs on Sunday but temps look to be dropping to low 20s then which I expect will feel relatively cool.

Tough for running at the moment @Blister but a good mark in the sand!

Good luck in the 3000 @SPR yes Sunday looks lots better!

Only decision tonight is footwear for the awkward crossover 10k distance. New Adidas Tak 10's for the bounce of that hard Lightstrike (my 5k shoes) - or the more comfy, Zoom in the Nike VF2's (reps & 10m/halfs)

Probably go for the Adidas and regret it!

I assumed the race was track, lol. I have the TS9, they are gathering dust as a shoe that wasn't very comfortable (ok once acclimatised but still harsh and I had to change the laces for them to work for me) and didn't seem to have a speed advantage over old school flats for me. Adiós 9 covers the road training (new light strike Pro which is softer) for me now with the SF2 for road racing. I'm interested in the TS11 as it's going to have the new softer LS Pro). I presume you're actually finding the TS10 faster than the VF2 @LBAC Si which would surprise me?

@SPR I can't really tell - I just use the TS for shorter races. The lightstrike is harder so I like the bounce I get. The VF are just more comfy.

I did say 10k - Had a classic asking for a number from an old official at a Rosenheim track meeting.

Me - Can I have a non scoring number in the 3k please?
Old guy - That's the 3,000 metres to you son'

I love all that ;)

Yeah you did @LBAC Si but I'm probably the only other person I've seen on this forum using 5000 for track and 5k for road consistently 🤣

For the TS9 I had the HR data Vs the Reebok Floatride RunFast Pro (basically the same/ slightly better in the Reeboks) and I just felt better, faster and more comfortable in the Reeboks. That changed with the SF2.

I'd love to have a go racing a 3000000mm again some time.
