Club-organised track night next Friday, electronic timing etc and races from 800m through to 3000m. For a change, I'm going to try to just do one MD race and benchmark a time, so signed up for a mile. Sub 5:50 has to be the goal. I'd normally sign up for 3000m / 800m double but I've always committed to the 3000 too much and made the second race a slightly pointless affair. |

Nice session SPR, you've got some good speed! Good luck with the mile larkim. I used to double up at southern leagues and do the 800m, then 1500m and sometimes something random like 2k steeple chase. I'd struggle to double up these days. I did (for me) a tough session yesterday. A pyramid of 200, 200, 400, 800, 400, 200, 200 with 2 minutes between reps. Aim was between 800 and 1500 pace, but my legs were still tired from Sunday's race. I hit 33, 33, 68, 2.36 (felt really tired by this one), 69, 32, 30. Did an 8 mile hilly run today, legs feel trashed now! Next week will be an easy recovery week, no hard sessions, just jogging and core work. |

@Blister Finished strong and the 400s look like the sweet spot. 800 at 15 pace is a tough one especially as a middle rep with just 2 mins recovery. 8 miles hilly after that would be tough! Thanks Blister and LBAC Si re session Talking of recovery I'm cooked today which is why I generally don't do Tuesday and Thursday sessions. I did 800 followed by 3000 as a training effort as my season opener last year and I've done second races for training effect previously. Don't think I'll be doing that this year as I feel like I need more recovery time. Race well in the mile @larkim. |

I've been training in the Streakfly 2 on track since I got them in April and they are working really well. I was tempted to use spikes for Thursday but legs were feeling a bit tired so stuck with the SF2. You'd hope the extra grip from the spikes would add some speed on short reps at least but the SF2 didn't feel like they were lacking and I'm impressed by how fast they feel. I do think the DF2 will be more durable though and they offer enough protection so I have got myself a pair for training.

SPR wrote: Yeah agreed, I don't think I've run a 1500 with that type of shape since my first few seasons running it where it was what I tried to improve as the season went on. See lots of the juniors run their races like that (there was a kid that beat me in two or three 15s last year with what seemed a more extreme version of that). Hopefully it indicates improvements can come quicker than the same time run at even pace. Just seen that this kid (U17) has run 4:06 this year already. Fastest was 4:23 last year. Shame old men can't improve at that rate unless they are total beginners, lol. |

Agree SPR - Bloody cold here too. Watching Bmth at City last week, so basically got run down training and racing and the hangover turned into a cold, will never learn! |

@SPR I've actually been planning to build some software that aggregates all UK events into a single database for easy searching. I compiled a list of websites that seem to cover most events, it includes the ones you added, but I have a few more (these tend to focus non-track races though): englandathletics.org entrycentral.com ukrunningevents.co.uk runningcalendar.co.uk resultsbase.net findarace.com The software is for a business venture a friend and I are trying to get off the ground, called Runner's Rewards. 4:23 to 4:06 in one year is ridiculous! I'd be happy to make a 1 second improvement! I never understood how young people progress so quickly - maybe a growth spurt? We have a guy in our club called Justin Davies, he's currently ranked 2nd in the UK 800m rankings with a 1:44. Just 7 years ago his PB was still slower than mine! |

@LBAC Si fingers crossed it doesn't last too long for you. I'm hopeful I'll be good to go tomorrow but we'll see. @Blister think I've seen all those at a certain point but as you say they don't really cover track. An aggregator for all the sites would be useful as it's always easy to miss something with the amount of sites that need to be checked. |
