Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Just joining this thread after thinking about small changes and accountability this week. My small change I'd like to make is getting outside for a walk every day.

I've been doing it while we had a dog visiting, and most days I do manage to get outside for a bit, BUT some days the weather or being busy with other stuff means that I get stuck indoors. It's not so much about exercise, as the stress relief, mental health and connection with nature benefits that have prompted this.

I'm going to try and make this an addition to days when I run, but not hold that too firmly.

Excellent plan Scribbler.
I did this throughout chemo and it really helped my mental health! Physical too, of course, but often I only managed a trip to my terrace, sit or lie down, walk back. Just being outside was a huge boost and I am perpetuating it: at least to the chickens and back, which is 250 metres.

Thanks for the reminder, Big leggy. I get the emails too but don’t often make time to read them.
A daily walk is a great add to your day, Scribs x

Thanks Hann, good to hear that walking helped with your recovery and that even small steps continue to contribute.

Also thanks GM :-)

I’m glad I did today’s walk at lunchtime as it’s tipping down with rain now.

When speaking to my mum the other day she bitterly said "do you think it's worth it?" When talking about my running
I says yes both physically and mentally
She then went off about knees and hips etc and I switched off!

Pix, why do people who don't understand ALWAYS go on about knees? I always got that with my cycling. Cycling is GOOD for your knees! In fact, my lack of physical activity has made my knee play up for the first time since surgery in January 2015! Now that I can walk again and use the watt bike in the club, it has improved again.
Activity good!
Inactivity bad!

Statistically you are less likely to need surgery if you run
I guess she assumes that because her joints are knackered then mine will be. Only her joints being knackered has nothing to do with exercise

Anecdotal evidence on knees...
I used to ride my motorbike to work and drive a truck to Birmingham every night, about an hour each way and half an hour of sitting around in between. When I got out of the truck at the end of it, my knees were really stiff and I had trouble walking.
I now cycle about 12 km to work and drive to Coventry every night, about an hour and a quarter each way with three hours of waiting, sitting in the truck, in between.
I feel a lot more flexible and able to walk at the end of it despite having spent twice as long sitting still.
