Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

We (well, mainly me actually, but I think the boy will join in during the wet phase) are building the prototype launch mechanism for a new season of bottle rockets.

I was talking to Ness at Draycote Water, and she said she'd built one too. So I wonder who else I could talk into sharing their plans and experiments. Who's up for it?

Our launcher prototype is a section of tune from a roll of carpet, and two tent pegs, which we will pull out at launch.

I was looking up bottle rockets after you last posted about them and eyeing up my local park as a potential launch site. On balance though, I think it may be better for everyone's wellbeing if I don't go down that route.

Our scouts do this every so often. Rolled paper, launched from a valved pressure pump pipe system. First three rounds are to tweak and get furthest distance; after that they try to encourage the rocket to go geographic on the launch pad/pipe :-o .

We'll be sharing our progress as we go. I think when we've perfected our cardboard launcher, I'll be seeing about swapping it out for a PVC pipe. And I note that Lidl were selling portable air compressors recently :-)

as we got in to the car the other day, my daughter noticed that there was a packet of Mentos next to an open can of coke.

"That's just a disaster waiting to happen," she said.
