Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

hi PB, I've got a similar injury from playing football. Cracked or broken rib last tues, have had problems sleeping & pain when sneezing. TBH I've ran most days since then (albeit all easy pace) and I don't tend to get any pain during the run.

PB - Sorry maybe I made it sound worse than it actually was. I started running again after 2 weeks off. Recovery has seemed slow, I've managed a few 12 milers the last few weekends, but not quite up to intervals and previous speeds yet, discomfort is mostly when running uphill now.

TBH I'm not sure that running makes it worse - it's just that it was so deeply unpleasant I didn't want to try! Plus I was recovering from a calf injury at the time (which is one of the reasons why I was on my bike in the first place) so I saw it as nature's way of stopping me coming back too quickly... Having already had over a month off with the calf I was kind of used to not running by that stage.

Thanks for the replys everyone.
Anna i find i have to walk downhill, can run that yet, but flat if ok, painful but bearable, although the pain does build up over time so by the end of a 9 miler ive really truely had enough!
Thing is i cant see myself not running for 3 weeks, so if i can do a bit so long as it doesnt actually make it worse, just sore, then why not?

Dearest all - almost three weeks ago I broke my ribs whilst karting during a works do. It was great fun, alas the injury isn't and reading the above has been a great help. I was looking here for that confirmation that we all look for - 'Yes, you can still run!' I started again last week, gently and off-road and it was tough. My speed is very much limited to the pain I'm feeling when I'm breathing heavily. I managed 14 miles with the club on Sunday and it was tough, really tough, when we did 7 miles at marathon pace!

A week after the injury I was turbo-training on my bike and even did a 3 hour session to replace my long-run. Then my fluid turbo trainer died (bearings!) - so I was forced (well, okay, a good excuse) to run again. How long was it before you all were back to where you were?

Thanks ever so - Dave.
