The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

I know, I know, Faecesbook is evil and I am the product, my data to be harvested for evermore etc etc. But I want to keep tabs on some of the rellies and ex-colleagues and this is where they are.

I've only got a couple of dozen "friends" but my home page is swamped with stuff liked or commented on or shared or otherwise reacted to by people I don't know, who are in some way tenuously connected to my "friends" or friends of friends. If there's anyone out there who just keeps it focused on real friends and people they they know and care about, what settings do you apply to filter out the cruft?

I'm drowning in cat and dog videos, "please share", "you won't believe what happens next", like this, ha ha that, etc etc. I just want to use Fb to log on and catch up without wasting time.

good question - when I set mine up I was able to say who I wanted to be able to see my profile and my posts (just friends, friends and friends of friends, or everyone) and what I wanted to be "fed" from other people. I can't find either of those settings now. When I get posts as you describe above I click on the drop down at the top right of the post and either choose to stop seeing that person's posts or to see fewer posts like the one I've clicked on. It's not perfect but it's a start . . .
