It's a jolly event, as it goes. Audax is, in an odd way, like trail running. Brevet populaire is audax's 'entry level' offshoot - a 'proper' audax is 200k+. Emit (as it is known) is just over 100k.

There is no way I could spend that long on a bike. My poor plums. Also imagine cycling from Stevenage to Saffron Walden and then having to cycle all the way back again. The horror! :-O

That must be a while ago Glenners!
To be fair Stevenage isn't bad as new towns go. Lots of cycle paths away from the traffic and Fairlands Valley is nice. Will be there again soon for the 3K relays..

2004 Brian - it's only every 10 years.

It's actually quite scenic, the problem is that all those little dips under the roads on the cycleway trash the calf muscles.

Stevenage is nastier than most new towns round here, with the possible exception of Harlow. Hate the place.
