bbc.co.uk Something I've thought about doing too to have some kind of come back against the worst offenders or maybe some evidence if the worst happens. |

(humourless London t*t mode on) Commuting through London probably puts me in the line of fire of more London cyclists than anywhere else, but I think I should similarly equip mysely with a camera to catch the moment directly before (or after, if not flattened) when I cross the road at a set of traffic lights, where the lights are on red, but some cyclists seem to think it doesn't apply to them, and continue across the junction at speed. (humourless London t*t mode off) |

Yes you should, no road user should get away with dangerous driving.

Maybe us runners / pedestrians could have cameras too so we could show the cyslists up on the pavements, going the wrong way down one way streets, cycling without helmets or lights and weaving in and out of traffic. Not all drivers are blameless but also some cyclists are not angels either. |

Indeed, the point though surely is to crack down on bad road users that endanger other people whatever they are travelling in? I'm not talking cyclist vs drivers, just idiots getting away with really dangerous behaviour. I'd be happy to see camera on red lights to catch cyclist RLJs for example. I'm not too worried about cyclists without helmets / drivers not waring seat belts etc., they endanger themselves mostly. Endangering others is the problem I think, and is certainly what gets me when riding. |

thedailybeast.com Anyone can have a camera so no argument to be had. If you want one buy one and film whoever the f**k you want. Pedestrian, cyclist, driver. |

I completely agree Simbil. Bad road use is bad road use regardless of the end user and their chosen mode. There is one cyclist that i see everyday. Never once seen him wearing a helmet, using any kind of light or hi-viz. (usually dressed head to toe in black) and had the cheek to shout at a driver for almost hitting him. (he was going the wrong way down a one way street). During the last spell of foggy weather i saw drivers at night using only sidelights (not a fog light to be seen). No excuses from anyone. It is dangerous, cut it out |

I shout at cyclists I see jumping lights. Even pedestrian crossings. I also tell idiots off for cycling on the pavements. However, I will say this, that the minority of other cyclists I see doing this are generally mostly endagering themselves (especially jumping lights - although I gather this is more of an issue in London than anywhere else), however a driver flying up to a junction and pulling out without looking into a cyclist is not going to come off worse are they? Car v Cyclist = splat. I'm not defending cyclists who are poor road users, but you also need to consider the consequences, and it's generally more dangerous with a bad driver (for cyclists and other drivers) than with a bad cyclist. Btw, if I had my way, it would be (a). Illegal to ride without a helmet. (b). Illegal to ride on the roads in the dark without lights (hi-viz is a user-choice IMO). (c). A fine or something for cyclists who jump lights and (d). A fine or something for cyclists who cycle on the pavements (although this can be something a grey area - epecially where bike lanes share pavements etc). |

Oh, I cycle to work everyday as well. I never jump light and don't cycle on pavements. I always use bike lanes and bike boxes at lights where possible. In the past year, I've been hit by a car and had 10 or so near misses- two people cutting in front of me and turning left, one trying to dive into a break in traffic from a side road from right and missing me by inches, 3 or 4 occasions where traffic has tried to overtake and got far too close for comfort and 3 or 4 occasions where drivers have misjudged my speed and dived across a crossroads (when I had priority) causing me to brake. These are only the ones I can remember. I won't count the number of times I've been overtaken by car semi-dangerously to save a few seconds. I usually end up passing them again anyway when they get stopped in traffic or at lights. I also won't count the number of times I've seen a driver put his foot down to "beat the lights" when they go amber (one of the most dangerous things I can think of) or the number of times I see a car fly up to a junction and slam the brakes on at the last second (this scares me sh**less on the bike and in the car as there's nothing you can do about it if they don't stop) or the number of times I see drivers driving round without lights on at night or just sidelights, or with full beam on all the time. |
