kyt best i've felt in a race this year. negative splits on an undulating out-and-back on a beautiful day for running. excellent organisation, atmosphere and spirit. one well-meaning walker (i assume) shut one of the gates on the way out so there was a wee obstacle section too. nice one yano (i'm his pacemaker, you know) who shot off with 500 metres to go - 2nd and a bottle of local malt. i was 4th out of about 40. Yano Undulating off-road course so not expecting a fast time here. Post-race: Well, faster than I thought and bizarrely I finished 2nd (about a minute or 2 behind the winner)!! Obviously there were no super fast runners here, but it still feels good. Quite a tough, hilly course. It was strange to set off and realise that we were the leading group. Was 5th at 5k so pleased to get a negative split and pick up 3 places. Ran with kyt most of the way - cheers mate, I couldn't have kept going without you. Didn't feel great, especially 5-7k but just kept going. Started to believe again about 9k. Mis-timed the sprint finish so had to keep sprinting for best part of 500m :) Well organised and well supported race. First podium finish, and probably the best I'll ever get. Bottle of malt, winners photos, etc - I'll enjoy it while I can. kyt 4th and another friend 6th (I think) in his first 10k. Unaffiliated 39:32 39:32 43:00 41:12 64.45
