I love them when they're well planned.

Because there's an extra tactical battle to work out how many you can get in the time, so the added time pressure makes people do stupid things.

Nothing annoys me more than a very boring leg that a planner thinks is interesting.

For example 24-25 on this course which I planned. I tried to tempt people into going the "wrong" way (down and round), but didn't quite get it right and it ended up being a boring leg: aire.routegadget.co.uk

I should have moved 25, but was trying to reuse one of the Yellow controls in the park.

3-4 ended up being not as good as I wanted it to be either.

(My excuse was that I was finishing drawing the map and then had to change control sites because it became a full SI event, rather than just hanging kites as I'd first envisaged).

yes my events are mainly MTBO and the equivalent on road too. So it's more of a route planning thing than navigation. I think the points system is primarily designed to make them legal (bikes on PROW so can't be a timed race, at least not without special permission). Though there are local maprun running courses too.

I don't think I ever got to a point where I was thinking about it enough to notice things like that, fozzy. I always just kind of ran and hoped for the best.

JDA - you should have a go at the urban courses we've had in Settle in the past:

That does look fun though.
