Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Normally in the summer (rolls eyes at recent weather) I'd typically do 1.5-2 miles from my door, get on a "decent" (cobbles, well compacted earth, gravel etc) flat to undulating path, then home on the roads. Recently I've been preferring paths to roads, more relaxing and interesting. Usually the surfaces are so good that road shoes have always been absolutely fine. This year I've ruined the weather by buying a tent and jinxing the lot of us. So slippy mud and some slippy cobbles are putting me off going up the paths.

Also my birthday is coming up.

Shoe recommendations for half and half road and reasonable paths (neutral runner) please. I don't care about getting wet feet. I'd rather wet than sweaty. Or do I runner the f*ck up and take my road shoes through a bit of mud????

I'd buy one pair of road shoes and one trail shoes and wear one shoe from each. You can swap the shoes around on alternate runs, but the trail shoe on the right is always teh best way of doing it.

I am going to have to suggest that Ruth's plan is nonsense.

I am left handed and wearing the trail shoe on the left is clearly better.

I bought some Salomon XA Pro 3d Ultra 2s the other day, to bridge the gap between my Lunarelites and my Inov-8 Mudrocs. They work a treat on both surfaces, and, since they're bright blue and look as funky as hell, they make me run faster.

I've worn my Adidas Kanadias for both & like them a lot - and they're not too expensive.

I've done 13 milers on-road in Kanadias without discomfort, and I've got proper wangy gait and pronation issues.

So if you're neutral and not 30 stone, they'll be fine.

I'm with Frobester. My Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultras were brilliant, and my Trail Aeros are also great.
