Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Thought I'd start a thread cos soon there will be a few of us around. If we likes talking we could make a group.

I'm at the long walks with a pram stage but hoping to do something more organised after my check in a couple of weeks. Anyone have any advice? I am surprised how bliddy unfit I have become in the last year so maybe we will all be in a similar state and need moral support.

That's if any of us get away from nappies and playmat time for long enough to post, that is.

how old is Cedd now? TBH I didn't start running until no.2 was a year old, so don't recommend you leave it that long! I'm hoping to start run/walking when this one is 6 weeks.

Check around and see if there's any specific post-natal classes on - both the hospital I had no. 1 at, and our local sports centre did classes for new mums - the hozzy one was sort of pilates-type things, the sports centre was more aerobics. Hospital one was aimed at first 8 weeks or so of getting back into shape, I think the leisure centre one you could go as long as you liked - I took F along till I went back to work when he was about 6 months. Importantly, in both of them you just took sprog in car seat/pushchair and parked them in the corner till you were through, or with the sports centre one you could put them in the creche for free after 3 months.

Neither of them would touch you with a bargepole till you'd had your 6 week check though. Before that, think I tried some swimming 4 weeks after he was born, and tried to fit in a few ab-stregthening things (from a book called Yoga for Pregnancy by Wendy Teasdill), errr, pretty much as soon as I looked down and saw the horror that was my squishy belly.

Remember your ligaments will still be all floppy (I think up to 4 months post-baby), so take it easy with the running

I am 2 months post baby now and soooo unfit. I've been for 1 run (1.5 miles) and it was so hard, I couldn't believe it! Curse all those cakes.... :P

Little one is booked into the gym creche tomorrow and Wednesday, and I am going to try some treadmill running and on Weds a swim and see how I go.

My belly is gross, the sooner I can attack it the better...!!

Hi - I'm 8 months post birth so not sure if I qualify but congrats to the new mums - and well done on your run Mikuro - good stuff! If it's any hlep, I started back run/walking gently after 4 weeks (c/s birth) and built it up gradually so I could do FLM a couple of weeks ago. Still have about half a stone to lose though. Have signed up for a mums'n'babies Pilates class next week, so hopefully that might tone things up a bit even if it doesn't make the weight drop off.

Ooh wow - well done sarahbob, that is exactly what I need to hear (hoping to use deferred FLM spot next year, about 10 months post sprog-drop).

But you ran quite a lot through pregnancy, didn't you?

Yes - ran all the way through - but after about 6 months it was v. slow and short distances (less than 10 miles per week) , so not sure exactly how much it helped my fitness really. Still found it reasonably tough to get back to a reasonable level of fitness (ate too many cakes whilst pregnant!) but took it quite slowly (especially as I had a c/s). It's perfectly do-able though - I'm definitley no super-woman. Have you had to give up running?

Yeah, got pubis symphysis and the extra weight was straining my dodgy knee - didn't really run after 5 months :-(

The 'too many cakes' bit has got me worried - I've eaten too many everything!
