Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Mine used to be red. Oooo, I might have to draw some random triangles & circles on a map in a minute!

Don't worry quimby, they are all printed for you these days. And the maps are mostly on waterproof paper, no messing with map bags. Its gone soft.

But that's half the fun, drawing your own symbols on the map. What will I do with the funny shaped holes in my compass? [wails]

I'd certainly be intersted. #1 and I were talking about this only yesterday and both said we'd love to give it a go.

old mum - the local informal events that orienteering clubs hold are excellent intros to the sport. All you really need it a cheap compass (I think they may lend them at some of the beginner's events?) and a brief instruction on how to use it. If you look at britishorienteering.org.uk , Find a Club, and have a look at your local club's web site, they should list their informal events to which you can just turn up. There will usually be someone there to help beginners. For example, my local club has: sisyphus.demon.co.uk

Ask us on here if you have any questions!

I regularly make enormously embarrasing navigational errors whilst fell running - does that count?

I have considered doing some orienteering just to improve my nav skills though.....
