Ok quick question. I've just been offered a Plymouth Half marathon place for this Sunday. I've just been getting back into the groove of distance and running fast and fancy a pb crack on one of my fave courses. I've ALSO agreed to do a 2 hour stint on the Relay for Life the night before (or rather the same morning 12am-2am). Would it be severely silly to say yes to the half and do both with less than a week before the DD, or are you stalwarts thinking - I run marathons for breakfast, sounds like good training, plenty of recovery time and what is he worried about?

Hmm, I'd be a little more cautious. Chrisull's done a few maras so has experience but I don't know if you've done back to backs? In your favour, you're used to tough stuff like the DD because you train on it all the time but your Sunday is a toughie. It's not just 2 hours + a half the next day, it's 2 hours in the middle of the night, not much sleep and a half you're thinking of racing. That's going to take quite a lot out of you and the DD is a difficult race.
I'm not going to advise either way. Just thinking back to when I'd done a handful of maras, it still took me a couple of weeks' taper to get ready for one and a couple of weeks to recover from one too. And your Sunday is pretty much a marathon no - 2 hours + 1'30-1'45 (sorry, don't know your half time)?

forecast is 15˚C for 5th June, sounds ok. Must be accurate at this distance surely!

Now you mention it like that Naomi - hadn't though of it that way. Yes my half time is 1.31, the 2 hours will be round a track and will be aiming to 9 min pace at best for it, which probably makes it 13 miles. I'm still mulling it over, have til end of day til decide.
I do have to mention that 2 weeks ago I ran a pb at 10k, on Sat evening and then did a marathon in training on Sunday morning on the hills at 4hr 15 pace, which felt fairly easy, and didn't suffer too badly from that (couldn't move on Monday, but managed 7 miles on Tuesday), so I'm starting to graduate into the crazy distances you guys run - and I have to say this is non-intentional, it just sort of happens, I reckon its infectious.

It is infectious, and you're more than capable of it, I'm just trying to avoid the "normalisation".... Personally I think you'll be ok, but I don't want to give the impression that it's a piece of piss. When I did my first back to back (Doyen followed by Hastings a week later) I was seriously in bits. And now look
