It is busy at the start BUT the start is quite wide. I started near the back last year and had no problems picking my way through. The crowd is just big enough to give a big race feel but small enough to let you run your own race.

Marcus -when you get your race info you will see that walking is not tolerated (at least in the first 5 miles) and that as it explains this is a road race, this is obviously meant to deter the person who walks it all the way -it also says they will be "taken out." No doubt this is because the field is limited to 4000. The start is a little slow because of the number but soon gets going -you'll find it OK |

marcus - last year i stood at the expected time marker (1.40) - lots of people were pushing to the front and i was in a big space so edged forward, overtook people for the first couple of minutes and then it settled nicely once we were round the corner across the main road. my official time was about half a minute behind my time from crossing the line. i think anyone who runs say 1.45 or quicker needs to get quite near the front to avoid the crush

Some of the comments are not exactly instilling me with the greatest of confidence at the moment! I only started running in January, but feel pretty confident with the right training between now and March I will be able to complete the 13 mile course albeit at a steady jogging pace and 'fingers crossed' within the 2.35 cut off. I’m local to the area (I live in Bramhall, work in Wilmslow) and the Wilmslow Half is always the talk of our office every year. I never thought I’d ever be in a position to even contemplate actually doing it, especially at my age! ![]() So come up give us ‘plodders’ a bit of encouragement, everyone has to start somewhere! ![]() I promise I’ll try not to “foul up” the start if I do decide to go for it ![]() |

The last finisher last year was just over 3 hours SP. Have a look at the results here: wilmslowhalf.org.uk there's a place for everyone in the race and you won't be fouling anyone up.....unless you elbow your way to the front. Go on, go for it. You won't regret it. |

Scruffy -I think the official advice says that it is expected that you should have done enough training to be able to run or jog the first 5 miles -not as severe as it may seem -so don't worry just enter and enjoy the thing. as for age -my third time out here and my first was at age 46 -and 49 for the next one! |
