Thanks for the replies people - Pixie - don't feel intimidated - no runner, including me, has any problems at all with slower runners. A first half-marathon is something to inspire you in the build-up, and to fill you with a sense of accomplishment and a desire to do more, not something to be afraid of. You'll love it.
Back to the fouled-up starts, I only have issues with people who insist on lining up at the front when they're planning on finishing at the back! It does spoil (a little) a good few of the bigger races.

Thanks Marcus, you have made me feel so much better This is a huge challenge for me, but don't worry I wouldn't even dream of trying to get to the front; I'll be right at the back rounding up the stragglers!
