CALDERVALE 10. First GP race of the year, and what a rubbish result. Waiting to see points though, as this was one tough mother of a road race, and am hoping points will be ok, as times at the front slow too! Absolutely toasting day, far too hot for sustained running up hill, really struggled with it. First 2 miles downhill, went faster than intended, but really felt comfortable. Mel S had paired up with me and possibly I was pushed along a bit by her, but it felt ok. Then the start of 5 miles uphill. I just got slower and slower, faded to a walk on the really steep bit at 6.5m, was hallucinating water stations everywhere (wherever there was a cluster of more than 2 people!). Sweat dripping in my eyes stung like hell, and indeed I thought I had died and gone there. Past the last water station at about 8 miles, and bliss of bliss it was a downhill finish, and suddenly I found my legs and a bit of a breeze and loved the finish. I'd had my watch on splits the whole way round, and was pleasantly surprised to see 1.33 as I crossed the line. Walking up that hill (11.45mm) I thought it would be a lot slower than that. Everyone from the club ran PWs. 8.19, 8.10, 9.22, 9.48, 9.35, 10.17, 11.22, 9.17, 9.06, 8.20 (Overall 159/214, F37/64, F40 11/14)
