Notes & Comments

Note on splits - there wasn't a 1st mile marker, so I've divided my second mile marker time in 2. However there is NO WAY this was accurately placed (look at 3rd mile split)! Averaging gives a better picture:

Cumulative:
total av
6.59 6.59 1
13.58 6.59 2
23.5 7.57 3
31.54 7.58 4
40.06 8.01 5
47.46 7.57 6
55.02 7.51 7
1.03.10 7.53 8
1.10.57 7.53 9
1.19.30 7.57 10
1.27.38 7.58 11
1.35.40 7.58 12
1.45.01 8.01 13.1

Looking back at my split times now, I'm quite surprised. I thought I was really slow at the beginning, but I actually ran quite an even paced race. And although I felt like I was flying after mile 5, I wasn't really. I don't think the mile markers were accurate at the start. I really don't think I did 7 minute miles at the beginning.

I had a gel at mile 10 which did give me a second wind. I had one of the three water stations, at about mile 7/8. Next time will try jelly babies.

I would have thought I speeded up towards the end. I certainly did in terms of effort, though evidently running into the v strong wind for the last 2 miles along the coast counteracted this!

Note on shin splints (miles 1 - 5) - I think I might have triggered this my tying my shoelaces too tight. My left foot still hurts today. Muscles are fine by the way. Didn't bring my running kit to work for usual lunchtime run, but am regretting this!

Can do better - must be able to do 71/2min miles all the way round!
