I think it was the timing of the programme that was crass ,rather than its content.....I remember the Scottish Football Association only very belatedly , and reluctantly , aggreeing to cancel an international friendly arranged to take place on the day of Diana's funeral....a reminder that my fellow Scots are invariably right up there in the Crassness League .....

The stupid "oops" adverts for Ten-a-Lady. While I am delighted that people suffering from bladder weakness have a product that will help them get through their various social activities comfortably and equally delighted that bladder weakness is now being portrayed as something that isn't only experienced by the elderly and/or ill, I have wondered whether the use of the glamorous young woman in the ad will lead to young women believing they all now have this to worry about too and am perturbed by the potential this has to lead to millions more of these things ending up in landfill sites. I can also imagine some young women buying Ten-a-Lady in the believe it will prevent their getting their skirts caught in lift doors and/or help them guard against falling out of taxis, but perhaps that's just my peculiar mind.

Will next year's version of Ten-a-Lady be called Eleven-a-Lady?

I wonder if the hyphenation is actually Tena-Lady, with the "tena" bit meaning "hold"? I must pay more attention next time the ad is on. Back on topic: The whole furore over Hilary Mantel's speech, which I have now read in full, is getting on my nerves. It wasn't any kind of personal attack. It annoys me that the tabloid press is feeding its readers disinformation at this level and it makes me wonder what's going on that it's considered we need to be distracted from.

Jen - I think the press are trying to distract us from Cameron's trip to India; the reports of less Indian students etc coming to the UK, and the impact of this. The tabloids made immigration an election issue, the Govt put in place various knee-jerk responses, which haven't stopped immigration from Europe but have curtailed overseas students coming here and providing essential funding for our universities. And other stuff too.

I did wonder about that when David Cameron perpetuated the ignorance in his remarks yesterday, Wobbling.
