Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I'm a loving pussy-cat really :-)

Useful suggestions, though my colleague - peering over my shoulder - has just pointed out that for a Stress Index, it's only natural to have more degrees on the negative scale. I mean, it's not Joy index is it?

Perhaps I was just venting ....

Is there no such thing as positive stress, then?

You mean stress induced by feeling of euphoria/cheerfulness? Does such a thing exist?

Wouldn't 'positive stress' be excitement?

Well, I have to say that I'd never heard of "Eustress" before. I feel it's not going to be an active word in my vocabulary, but I understand the distinction. I like "excitement" better though :-)

But it's interesting though (at least I think so) that someone thought that "stress" could be divided into two sub-categories, distress, and, to use your word, exctitement. Fits for me, too. But no, I'd never heard of eustress before, I just thought that there could (and should) be a positive application of it.

My stress level was 1 until that ear-grating 'eustress' pseudo-word reared its ugly head.

Eustress sounds to my ear a lot like Useless.

Dunno about my level of stress, but I'm certainly irked. One of my favourite words, incidentally...

About This Thread

Maintained by Northern Exile
This is a place to record your HR as of this minute and anything else that is of consequence. It's also the best place to record your current level of euphoria or, more likely, frustration. You can rate that on the Northern Exile Index (NEI):

1 - Calm and unruffled. Cheerful, sunny demeanour
2 - Keeping cool, but not exactly full of joy
3 - As long as I don't have to talk I'll be fine
4 - Mildly pissed-off
5 - Irritated. Tension and anxiety beginning to increase
6 - Annoyed. I'm keeping a lid on it, but only just
7 - Stressed - keep out of my way
8 - Angry. It won't take much to set me off
9 - Incandescent with rage
10 - One step closer and I'll tear your fucking lungs out
