Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I’m staying in Manchester City centre - Princes Street. Anybody know of somewhere nearby that would be good for a bit of speed work in the morning? A half mile, well lit, car free stretch would be fine.

It has been a long while since I ran in Manchester but a good option might be to make your way to the canal. I am not aware of a specific spot but once you are past Castlefield I think there would be a good place.

Bridgewater Way - looks perfect. many thanks.
Was faffing around the other canal tonight but it was a bit grim.

Depends how nearby you mean? Central you'll struggle to get car free for half mile.

Nearest I'd consider is Store Street as it's quieter but not car free, about 400m with bit of incline. Is next to Jutland St for hill reps too.

Adjacent to bottom of Princess Rd there's an unused slip way at the end of Birchall Way, probably about 300m, car fumes around though.

Further out there's a long flat bit by the Quays near Imperial War Museum etc. Or else the path from Holt Town tram stop up behind the athletics stadium to the Etihad Stadium. Or use athletics stadium if open early enough.

I'd avoid canal paths for speedwork as other users bikes / pedestrians may make it awkward.

I've probably overlooked something glaringly obvious.

Enjoy!

P.s. Alex Park might work, just up princess rd a bit, wide flat paths is a relatively new (& fast) parkrun course.

Went down the tow path, was grand but a lot darker than I was expecting (stupidly I had a head torch back at the hotel).

Got out about sixish so it was reasonably quiet until the last mile.
