I've been fighting a hamstring in injury coming on for nearly 3 months now

The pain is like i have been kicked on the back of my leg
no bruising
no back pain

I do around 30 minutes of core work/stretches every day

The pain started off really bad to the point I couldn't sit down in the car for 10 minutes but this has since subsided.
Physio thought it was my back nerves rubbing together but now this is not the case

I've went a total 3 weeks without running and and started again the last 7 days but the pain is still there but not as bad

I am running at about about 10% slower then what I was before and I dont feel I could do any long miles (i.e more than 6 miles)

The time frame of the injury would suggest surgery is an option as it might be a grade 3 but performance and everyday tasks would put it at a grade 1 or 2

I just want the pain to go away - 3 months of core and stretching / 2 1/2 months of scaled back running and 3 weeks of no running / I feel I've done my rest/recovery time and just want to get back running now

Any advice

Are you really sure it's not a back problem? (how does the physio know?)

Sounds very frustrating. I suggest that, if you like and trust your physio, you ask him/her for a referral to someone with more specialised training/experience with this problem. If you have no particular relationship with your physio, seek out another on your own. Ask among your running friends for recommendations.

I had something similar a few years ago.. symptoms for me were a light / dull ache when running but a major pain after 30 mins or so driving.

In the end, it turned out to be some scar tissue in my back from an old football injury. Once this was treated the pain went away. It is worth noting though that I do also have poor glute firing when I run so that can also cause my hamstring to fire and take over doing the job my glute should.

Oh really? Excellent cos I'm doing that already, however my right glute appears to have gone on holiday. I'm hoping at some point it might return and start functioning properly!
